This list of digital nomad visa countries covers 32 digital nomad and remote-work visa routes. The monthly income bar runs from about US$1,450 (Ecuador) to about US$6,170 (South Korea, over-35s in the Seoul area). A few have no income test at all: Thailand’s DTV uses a bank balance instead, and Uruguay and the Bahamas’ BEATS don’t state a threshold in the sources we checked. Every row comes from a page we fetched. Where we couldn’t confirm a figure, it’s marked verify, and countries we couldn’t confirm at all are left out.

In short:
- This 2026 list covers 32 digital nomad and remote-work visa routes, with monthly income bars from about US$1,450 (Ecuador) to about US$6,170 (South Korea, over-35s in the Seoul area).
- Thailand’s DTV has no income test and uses a 500,000 THB bank balance instead, while Uruguay and the Bahamas’ BEATS don’t state a threshold in the sources checked.
- On almost every digital nomad visa, staying roughly 183 days a year makes you tax resident, because a nomad visa and a tax exemption are two different things.
How to read the table
- Income is shown in the currency the country uses, with an approximate monthly USD figure. We converted euro and other ECB-quoted currencies at ECB reference rates for 30 September 2026 (EUR 1 = USD 1.1355). Annual thresholds are divided by 12. These are guides only: consulates judge in the official currency, on their own reading of your documents.
- Tax is a one-line pointer, not advice. On almost every visa here, staying roughly 183 days a year makes you tax resident. A nomad visa and a tax exemption are two different things.
- Source links to the page we checked. “(official)” means a government or government-agency page. Everything else is a law firm, news outlet or specialist guide, used because we couldn’t reach an official page. Treat those rows as a starting point.

What’s not in the table, and why
We left out routes we couldn’t pin to a fetched source this round: Germany’s freelance visa and the Czech živnostenský list (neither has a fixed nomad income test), Georgia, Armenia, Taiwan, Vietnam, Argentina, Bermuda, Curaçao and Seychelles. Norway’s Svalbard isn’t a visa route at all. The Cayman Islands’ Global Citizen Concierge Program stopped taking applications on 31 October 2022, so it’s no longer listed. Iceland’s long-term visa for remote workers lost its legal basis when the new Visa Act (No. 37/2026) took effect on 14 May 2026; we’ve removed it until Iceland confirms a replacement. If you’ve recently applied for any of these, post your figures with a link and we’ll add the row.
Patterns worth knowing
- Europe clusters around €3,000–4,500 a month. Romania is the expensive outlier. Southern Europe (Spain, Italy) is cheaper to qualify for but harder on tax once you stay.
- The Caribbean prices by the year ($50,000–100,000), and several islands pair that with no local income tax on remote income.
- Asia uses different tests. Thailand checks your savings, Japan and Indonesia set high annual bars for short stays, and Malaysia’s bar depends on whether you work in tech.
- Length is the real differentiator. Six-month visas (Japan, Namibia) are extended holidays. Routes into multi-year residence permits (Portugal, Spain, Greece, UAE) are how you actually relocate.

Quick answers
Q: Which digital nomad visas have the lowest income requirements?
In this list, Ecuador asks for three times the basic wage, $1,446 a month at the 2026 rate of $482. Brazil’s VITEM XIV and Mauritius’s Premium Visa ask for $1,500 a month, and Colombia about $1,690. Thailand’s DTV has no income test, using a 500,000 THB bank balance instead.
Q: Does a digital nomad visa make you exempt from tax?
No. A nomad visa and a tax exemption are two different things, and on almost every visa in this list, staying roughly 183 days a year makes you tax resident. A few routes have favourable tax notes, such as Barbados’s Welcome Stamp, whose holders are not liable for Barbados income tax, but check each country separately.
Q: Which digital nomad visas lead to long-term residence?
Length is the real differentiator. Six-month visas such as Japan’s and Namibia’s are extended holidays. Routes into multi-year residence permits, such as Portugal’s D8 residence route, Spain’s in-country permit of up to 3 years, Greece’s 2-year renewable permit and the UAE’s renewable visas, are how you actually relocate.
