Multi-currency business accounts (2026): Wise, Revolut, Airwallex, Mercury

The best multi-currency business account for a founder abroad depends first on where the company is registered. Mercury only accepts companies formed in the US or a US territory. Revolut Business wants a UK, EEA or US company. Airwallex onboards businesses only from the countries and territories on its published list, and Wise Business is the broadest, with no monthly fee on its UK pricing. Payoneer suits marketplace payouts more than day-to-day banking.

Eligibility: where your company is registered matters most

  • Mercury: “your company must be formed and registered in the United States or a U.S. territory.” You don’t need to be a US citizen or resident, but Mercury expects existing or planned US operations. It rejects registered agent addresses, PO boxes and UPS Store addresses, and it can’t serve founders living in certain countries.
  • Revolut Business: the company must be registered in, and able to prove physical presence in, the UK or EEA. US-registered companies are also accepted. For UK and EEA companies, applicants can live in the UK, EEA, US, Australia, Singapore or India. The resident list for US companies is longer and includes the UAE, Canada and Japan.
  • Airwallex: only businesses from the countries and territories in its help-centre table can onboard. The US, UK, Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia were listed; an Estonian company is onboarded to Airwallex’s Lithuanian entity. The UAE and Georgia were not on the list when we checked.
  • Wise Business: accepts sole traders, limited companies and partnerships widely, with country carve-outs (for example, no new UK trusts or limited partnerships). It refuses businesses with bearer shares in any jurisdiction, and crypto, tobacco and adult businesses.

Known downsides

  • Account reviews and closures. Fintechs run ongoing compliance checks. Founders whose company, residence and client base sit in three different countries get more questions. Keep a second account and read Why banks close digital nomads’ accounts, and which are safer bets.
  • Mercury’s US-only rule. A UK Ltd, Estonian OÜ or UAE free zone company can’t use it. Its 3% card FX fee also makes it a poor travel card.
  • Revolut’s plan maths. The free FX allowance resets monthly. A founder converting £20,000 a month on Basic pays 0.6% on £19,000.
  • Payoneer’s card and withdrawal fees add up if you spend from it directly. Many users treat it as an inbound pipe only.

How to choose

  1. US LLC owner: Mercury for USD operating banking, plus Wise Business for other currencies. See Wyoming LLC for non-US residents: Form 5472, banking and tax (2026) for address requirements.
  2. UK or EU company: Revolut Business or Wise Business. Choose Revolut if you need spend controls and many cards; Wise if you mostly receive and convert.
  3. Asia-Pacific company, or heavy FX volume: Airwallex, if your company’s country is on its list.
  4. Selling on marketplaces: Payoneer to receive, then move funds to a main account.

Whatever you pick, don’t rely on one provider. A second account at a different firm is cheap insurance.

Quick answers

Q: Can a non-US company open a Mercury account?
No. Mercury’s eligibility page says the company “must be formed and registered in the United States or a U.S. territory.” The founder doesn’t need to be a US citizen or resident, but the business needs existing or planned US operations and a real physical address, not a registered agent address.

Q: Which multi-currency business account has no monthly fee?
On the UK pricing we checked, Wise Business has no monthly fee, just a one-off £50 set-up for all features. Mercury’s base plan is $0 but needs a US company. Airwallex Explore is free only if you deposit or hold at least £10,000 a month; otherwise it is £19.

Q: Can Revolut Business be opened for a company outside the UK or EU?
Revolut Business accepts companies registered in the UK, the EEA or the US. Companies elsewhere can join a waiting list. Director and owner residence rules also apply. For US companies, the accepted residence list is broader and includes the UAE, Canada, Japan and Australia.
